New Zealand Men’s Coach
Congratulations to Ilkin Önal who has been selected as the new
coach of the New Zealand Men’s Handball team. He replaces Pablo Rey who spent a
number of years coaching the team and has some big shoes to fill. However, with
his playing experience and his background high level coaching in Germany, we
are certain that Ilkin will be a valuable asset to New Zealand high performance
handball.
Ilkin’s first challenge will be preparing and selecting the team to participate
in the Men’s World Championship Qualifiers in the Cook Islands next year. We
wish him and the team the best of luck with their campaign.
Beach Handball World Championship Qualifiers 2012
This tournament will be held on Sunday 29 January 2012 at St Kilda in
Melbourne, Australia and will be run in conjunction with the Australian Beach
Handball Championships (27 – 29 January).
The NZHF Executive Committee would like to congratulate Ben Birkenhake on his selection
as the coach of the Women’s team. Ben has a wealth of experience, having
coached the team at their last appearance at World Champs. We wish him and the
team all the best for the qualifiers.
Unfortunately, due to lack of player availability, we have not entered a men’s
team to contest qualification.
Oceania Beach Handball Championships
The New
Zealand Handball Federation is looking for expressions of interest from all
those keen to be involved in the campaign to qualify for the Beach Handball

prospective referees.
The qualification tournament will
be held on Sunday 29 January 2012 at St Kilda in Melbourne, Australia and will
be run in conjunction with the Australian Beach Handball Championships (27 – 29
January).
The winner of the qualification

Update - Australian State Championships
Thank you to those who have expressed an interest in playing
at the Australian National Champs. We are still interested in hearing from
anyone keen to play or who is interested in coaching the women's team.
You do not have to be a New Zealand passport holder in order
to play at this tournament, although the tournament rules do place limits on
the number of foreign nationals permitted per team. The Championships will be
held at Sydney Olympic Park at Homebush, Sydney from Thursday 27 October to
Sunday 30 October.
The first training camp for those interested in traveling
will be held in Wellington on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 September. We apologise
for the short notice, but it is important that we start preparing as soon as
possible. The second camp is likely to be held on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16
October. Please email
to confirm your attendance at the first training camp.
Daniel Triebsch will be coaching the men's team. Daniel
brings considerable experience to the role and we thank him for the time and
effort that he will be putting in.
THANKS :)
